Fortis Energy Unveils Solar-Battery Project in Serbia

Fortis Energy, a Turkish company, is advancing plans for a solar-battery hybrid power facility in Serbia with a capacity of 270 MW. The project, situated near Sremska Mitrovica, has secured a construction permit and is expected to commence in the spring following anticipated transmission permits. This development comes after the company announced an addition of a battery energy storage system of 36 MWh. The facility aims to connect to the grid while further expanding Fortis Energy’s renewable initiatives within the region.

The Chief Operational Officer, Velimir Gavrilović, indicated that projects Noćaj 1 and Noćaj 2 are in the final stages before construction. In a recent discussion with Branislav Nedimović, the Mayor of Sremska Mitrovica, details were shared that the solar park’s construction permit is now finalized, and the necessary transmission permit is expected within three months, facilitating a spring start to construction activities. The chosen site for the solar power plant is on private land located south of the Sava River, extending towards Drenovac village in the Mačva region.

Additionally, Fortis Energy has signed an agreement for another solar park in Erdevik, located in the neighboring municipality of Šid, with a planned capacity of 110 MW and a battery storage system of 31.2 MWh. The company is also engaged in wind projects in Vranje, Gornjak, and Juhor and operates five biogas plants across Serbia totaling 21 MW. In North Macedonia, the firm recently completed a photovoltaic facility with a peak output of 79.9 MW and plans for further battery energy storage enhancements at that site.
