HyET Solaris has successfully acquired €60 million in funding from UK investors Aequitas Carbon Ltd and Abbeydale Partners LLP to establish a 50-megawatt production facility in the Netherlands. The project aims to initiate test production by mid-2026, with expectations for full commercial output of flexible perovskite photovoltaic modules by the end of 2027. This investment is seen as a significant step towards advancing solar technology.
Aequitas Carbon, an investment firm committed to energy and materials innovation, views HyET Solaris as a perfect fit for its mission to pioneer affordable solar solutions. Maarten Scholten, an Operating Partner at Aequitas, stated, “With perovskite PV technology, we can shift the industry focus from rigid panels to flexible and scalable solutions.” Abbeydale Partners, specializing in clean energy and advanced manufacturing investments, will provide both monetary support and operational guidance to expedite HyET Solaris’ growth. CEO Mark Corbidge emphasized the company’s potential, noting that this venture is just the starting point for the HyET Group’s innovative technologies in global markets.
Planning to boost its production capacity to 1 gigawatt, HyET Solaris may further expand its operations within Europe and the Middle East. The company carries forward the legacy of HyET Solar, which faced bankruptcy due to shareholder disputes, yet retains its core team and technology. By maintaining the HyET brand, they benefit from established goodwill in the industry. Co-founder and CEO Rombout Swanborn highlighted the significance of not just financial backing but also expertise in enhancing their ability to transition the world to lightweight, affordable solar energy.
Edward Hamers, CTO of HyET Solaris, described this funding as a groundbreaking milestone for solar energy. The organization is collaborating with global research institutions to further develop accessible clean energy. Their innovative product, produced from abundant amorphous silicon, provides a sustainable alternative to conventional solar panels and has versatile applications ranging from cost-effective utility-scale plants to high-end architectural integrations. HyET Solaris is part of the HyET Group, which focuses on technologies that facilitate the economically viable large-scale use of renewable and decentralized energy generation and distribution.
