Ferrari has officially entered the electric vehicle market with the debut of the Luce, a groundbreaking five-seater hatchback that marks a departure from the brand’s traditional design language. Developed in collaboration with the creative studio LoveFrom, the vehicle is powered by four electric motors and a 122 kWh battery, delivering 1,050 cv. The car achieves a 530 km range, accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 310 km/h. Ferrari emphasizes that the Luce maintains the visceral driving experience of a sports car while integrating over 60 new patents.
The vehicle’s design introduces several unique aesthetic and functional elements, including a windscreen that transitions seamlessly into the bonnet, rear-hinged doors, and side-mounted wipers. In a significant move toward sustainability, engineers utilized recycled aluminum alloys in the construction process, which successfully reduced production carbon emissions by 70 percent. The interior features a steering wheel crafted from recycled aluminum, a dashboard equipped with Samsung OLED screens, and a center console constructed from durable Gorilla glass. A unique E-ink feature allows the iconic yellow Ferrari logo to transfer onto the drive selector when the key is docked.
To address the quiet nature of electric propulsion, Ferrari incorporated a sensor on the rear axle that captures natural mechanical vibrations. These sounds are amplified through the vehicle’s speakers, providing an auditory experience reminiscent of an electric guitar. Performance is managed by a sophisticated vehicle control unit that updates 200 times per second to optimize handling. CEO Benedetto Vigna noted that the Luce represents the company’s commitment to bold technological advancement, blending high-performance engineering with comfort to cater to the evolving preferences of Ferrari enthusiasts while expanding the brand’s portfolio into new engineering territories.
