Europe’s Largest Energy Storage Project Goes CommercialEurope’s Largest Energy Storage Project Goes Commercial

Phase 1 (200MW/400MWh) of the 2-phase project started commercial operation today. A further 100 MW will be added in 2026, bringing the total to 300 MW/600 MWh.

The total capacity of this project is equivalent to powering 3.1 million homes in Scotland for 2 hours (there are 2,509,300 homes in Scotland).

When completed, the project will be equivalent to 32% of Scotland’s current total energy storage capacity.

This electricity storage facility is located near offshore wind farms. It aims to reduce the imbalance in the grid caused by wind power generation.

According to the UK’s Zenobē, the operator of the project, the revenue generated by reducing electricity price volatility alone will be £164 million over 15 years.
