Eastern Green Link 1: Construction Begins on UK’s Subsea Electricity Superhighway

Construction is now underway on Eastern Green Link 1, a major subsea electricity superhighway designed to enhance the UK’s power grid. The project will feature the UK’s first 525 kV HVDC XLPE submarine cable system, supplied by Prysmian, spanning 190km between England and Scotland.

Strengthening the Grid for the Future

Eastern Green Link 1 is a key infrastructure project aimed at expanding the UK’s electricity transmission capacity. By enabling more efficient power transfer between regions, the project will support renewable energy integration and enhance grid stability.

Local and Regional Development

Beyond energy transmission, Eastern Green Link 1 is expected to boost long-term regional development by reinforcing infrastructure and supporting local communities hosting this critical project.

With construction now in progress, Eastern Green Link 1 represents a significant step forward in the UK’s clean energy transition, ensuring a more resilient and future-proof grid.
