Huasun Energy, a Chinese leader in heterojunction solar PV technology, has partnered with Italy’s New Time to establish a 1 GW manufacturing factory focused on building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) in the Emilia-Romagna region. The collaboration aims to combine advanced technologies such as HJT and perovskite to produce innovative solar products including roof tiles and glass parapets. This factory is expected to enhance the local technology supply chain and create jobs while contributing to Italy’s goals for energy autonomy and ecological transition.
Huasun Energy, a heterojunction (HJT) solar PV technology leader from China, has joined hands with New Time, an Italian architectural solutions company that has expanded its focus to building integrated PV (BIPV). Together, they plan to build a 1 GW module manufacturing factory in Italy. The two parties have signed a letter of intent (LOI) to collaborate on establishing the factory in the Emilia-Romagna region, where they intend to produce solar products that are Made in EU. New Time has stated that the partnership will leverage the strengths of HJT technology along with perovskite technology to develop innovative solar solutions, including roof tiles, solar pavements, and PV glass parapets.
“The new factory will represent an important opportunity for developing the Italian technology supply chain, creating new qualified jobs, producing cutting-edge BIPV solutions,” according to New Time. The initiative marks a significant moment towards enhancing European energy autonomy, fostering regional industrial development, and facilitating the ecological transition. Earlier this year, New Time announced a €25 million Net Zero plan focused on developing BIPV systems in Emilia-Romagna, with support from the Italian government through Invitalia. This project will involve producing special PV glass in Budrio, alongside a new central hub specifically for assembly and research and development (R&D) activities in San Lazzaro di Savena.
Local media reports indicate that New Time engineers will receive technical training from Huasun in China, enabling them to start production in the third quarter of 2026. This collaboration follows Italy’s Transizione 5.0 scheme, which provides tax credits of up to 150% for solar modules made in the EU and incentivizes higher efficiency levels to bolster renewable energy investments within the country. This partnership is also in line with Huasun’s earlier collaboration with Bee Solar to launch a vertically integrated factory for wafers, cells, and PV modules in Italy. At the time of publication, TaiyangNews had reached out to Huasun for updates on both the Bee Solar collaboration and the New Time partnership, but awaited a response.
