The United States marked a significant year for clean energy in 2024, with major solar, wind, and battery storage projects reshaping the nation’s energy landscape. Data from energy analysis firm Cleanview highlights the substantial growth in project size and capacity over the past decade.
Key among these milestones was the Gemini Solar Project in Nevada, which became a standout achievement. Boasting nearly five times the capacity of the largest solar project a decade ago, it also featured the year’s most significant energy storage investment, integrating a massive battery system to enhance grid resilience.
According to Cleanview, solar project capacities have grown nearly sixfold compared to a decade ago, while wind projects have tripled in size over the past 15 years. Battery storage projects, critical to supporting renewable energy integration, have seen a fifteenfold increase in size within just five years.
This dramatic expansion underscores the accelerating pace of the US clean energy transition, showcasing advancements in technology and investment as the country continues to lead in sustainable energy solutions.
