Chinese battery manufacturer SEVB has made a revolutionary announcement at the 17th Shenzhen International Battery Fair, introducing the world’s first ultra-fast charging battery, known as the Star Chaser 2.0. This groundbreaking battery charges at an incredible rate of 12C, allowing it to reach full charge—equivalent to a range of over 450 km—in just five minutes. This innovation addresses one of the primary hurdles for electric vehicle (EV) adoption: the lengthy time required for recharging compared to quick refueling of gasoline-powered vehicles. The Star Chaser 2.0 is a significant upgrade from its predecessor, which charged at 4C, and utilizes SEVB’s proprietary Tianqing architecture to enhance energy density and thermal management.
In addition to its rapid charging capabilities, the Star Chaser 2.0 battery is designed with safety in mind, reducing the risks of thermal runaway and fire through innovative cooling technologies. The battery is adaptable for both cars and two-wheelers, showcasing SEVB’s broader approach to improving EV infrastructure across different vehicle types. Furthermore, the company aims for a low cost of ownership, claiming that the total cost of maintaining a new EV with the Star Chaser 2.0 battery will be more economical than that of internal combustion engine vehicles over a three-year period. This advancement in charging technology may represent a pivotal step towards mainstream EV adoption by addressing key consumer concerns regarding range and refueling times.
