The Spanish government, led by Industry Minister Jordi Hereu, has unveiled a significant funding initiative for the e-mobility sector through the fourth call for tenders under the PERTE programme, amounting to €1.25 billion. Of this total, €1 billion will be distributed as loans, with the program now entirely managed by the state-owned SEPIDES, aimed at enhancing industrial promotion and business development. This round will specifically support the conversion of production lines to manufacture innovative electric vehicle (EV) components previously unproduced in Spain. The government emphasizes that the funding aims to drive industrial transformation, continuing to back the entire value chain from electric vehicles to battery production.
Citing Spain’s burgeoning electric vehicle market, Hereu remarked on the impressive growth in e-car registrations, which rose by 80% compared to last year. Since the initiation of the PERTE programme, nearly €2.5 billion has already been distributed among about 300 companies in the automotive sector. Spain’s ambitious energy and climate plan envisions around 5.5 million electric vehicles, including three million electric cars, on the roads by 2030. This comprehensive funding not only reinforces Spain as a significant player in vehicle manufacturing but also positions the country as a hub for advanced mobility solutions globally.
