RecycLiCo and Alaska Energy Metals Partner to Refine Critical Battery Minerals
The two companies are testing hydrometallurgical processing methods to recover battery-grade metals from the Nikolai Project Eureka deposit in Alaska.
RecycLiCo Battery Materials Inc. and Alaska Energy Metals Corp. have entered a partnership to test the processing of metal concentrate samples from the Nikolai Project Eureka deposit in Alaska. The collaboration aims to determine the effectiveness of RecycLiCo’s specialized chemical processing technology in extracting critical minerals, which are essential for developing domestic supply chains for high-tech manufacturing and the automotive industry.
The Eureka deposit contains eight metals, including seven classified by the U.S. government as critical: nickel, cobalt, copper, chromium, platinum, palladium, and gold, alongside iron. Initial laboratory testing has already demonstrated successful separation of these materials into a bulk nickel-copper concentrate. The current phase involves further testing at RecycLiCo’s facility in Delta, British Columbia, to refine the extraction process using the company’s hydrometallurgical method.
This initiative is part of a broader effort within the Minerals for National Automotive Competitiveness group, which connects raw material suppliers, refiners, and automakers such as Lucid. The goal of this collective is to establish a secure, all-American supply network for critical minerals. By utilizing advanced refining techniques, the companies intend to demonstrate that these domestic resources can be efficiently recovered for North American supply lines.
Richard Sadowsky, Interim CEO of RecycLiCo, stated that the company expects to show the benefits of its hydrometallurgical solutions in recovering high-value materials necessary for a domestic supply chain. Gregory Beischer, President and CEO of Alaska Energy Metals, noted that the partnership represents tangible collaboration between upstream suppliers and mid-stream refiners to achieve the group's objective of creating localized automotive supply chains.
