VinFast Launches Battery Swapping Electric Motorcycles In The Philippines

VinFast is expanding its electric two-wheeler footprint in Southeast Asia by launching a battery-swapping motorcycle lineup in the Philippines. Following a similar rollout in Indonesia, the company is introducing the Evo, Feliz II, and Viper models to the Philippine market. By offering a flexible ownership model that includes battery subscription options, VinFast aims to lower entry costs and mitigate concerns regarding battery degradation. Supported by the deployment of battery-swapping stations through its partner V-Green, the company is attempting to establish an integrated mobility ecosystem designed to accelerate the transition from internal combustion engines to electric transportation.

The new motorcycle lineup features a 5.2-kW in-wheel motor capable of reaching speeds between 80 and 90 kilometers per hour. Each vehicle utilizes lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs, which are recognized for their safety, durability, and cost-effectiveness. When equipped with two battery packs, these motorcycles can achieve a range of up to 150 kilometers. This infrastructure-heavy approach allows riders to exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones in minutes, providing a practical alternative to traditional charging in densely populated urban environments where access to power outlets may be limited.

This expansion is part of a broader regional strategy that sees VinFast targeting multiple international markets, including India, Thailand, and Malaysia, simultaneously. Rather than focusing exclusively on vehicle sales, the company is working with partners like V-Green and Green GSM to build a comprehensive support network. By integrating vehicle hardware with charging infrastructure, fleet operations, and after-sales services, VinFast hopes to secure a competitive position in the Southeast Asian market. The success of this model in the Philippines will serve as a critical indicator of whether the company’s ecosystem-based strategy can effectively scale beyond its home market in Vietnam.
